I design
for
the landscape

I create landscape and planting strategies, on the variety of scales
and time perspectives. I work in the interdisciplinary teams.
I am interested in projects that
emphasize the phenomena
of nature and its dynamic
processes.

Landscape ?

The landscape is most often associated with an attractive view. But is the role of a landscape architect to create pretty pictures? I see landscapes are a dynamic mirrors of our relations with: architecture / nature / art / ecology / science. The website’s narrative is based on an exchange of thoughts with Mateusz Salwa, a landscape philosopher.

It functions,

for whom?

Does the architect design landscape or rather for the landscape?

The antropocentric approach often dominates design and management of urban landscapes. In order to ensure the physical and mental well-being of man, one has to undertake the difficult task of reconciling often conflicting interests of people, animals and plants so that each actor can benefit from it … It is crucial to remember that not only landscape is to serve man, but also man – to serve the landscape.

Fitoremediacja gleby, powietrza i wody… fito = roślina; remedia = przywrócenie równowagi zdolność roślin do oczyszczania wody, gleby i powietrza we współpracy z wszechświatem mikroorganizmów

It grows,

so it takes time.

Landscape is usually associated with three-dimensional space, yet landscape also has a temporal dimension. What if, against the habit, we look at landscape as a verb?

The landscape smells, rustles, whistles, crackles, flutters, flickers, reflects, rustles, dusts, rocks, collapses, falls, falls, leans, dances in the wind, claps, drinks, evaporates, dies, green, blooms, grows, it grows….

The landscape lasts over time, it changes constantly, even at every moment. Basically, therefore, even in relation to one specific place, one should rather talk about successive landscapes, which would “consist” of a series of successive landscapes, those – of next ones…

Changing seasons observing and studying of phenomena occurring in the life of plants and animals, depending on the seasons and changing weather conditions, make us realise the passage of time and autotune to the nature cycles.

We can experience…

like in nature

Paying attention to the sensual aspect of landscapes allows one to realize that the “bodily immersion”  – man is not able to live outside his environment, also because he is part of it. Looking at clouds, phonospheres / sounds, landscapes of taste…

Sometimes it is intriguing phenomena of nature that can become the narrator of a given space. The wind, which enhances the perception of the space in the vicinity of the forest, influences its unique microclimate of the place, its sound, image, scent landscape, lowers the temperature and moisturizes the city air. The unique location of the landscape at the junction of two different ground coverings makes it a dynamic, changeable landscape that people experience and live through in their own way.
